From 2002 to 2004 Shelly became ‘Associate Artist’ at The Place the UK’s premier centre for contemporary dance. During her time as artist in residence she engaged in the exploration of choreography created through the medium of video.
Commissioned by ‘The Place Dance Film Commission’ it is the first in her ‘Backwards Series’.
Shelly features in the film as Delia alongside Gerard Bell who plays George.
To devise the film Shelly and Gerard engaged in a playful physical process in the studio, soon a love relationship developed and Delia and George were born.
They Explored various everyday materials and newspaper became the material of choice while clingfilm and bin bags were put on hold for her next two films. Shelly had been inspired by a documentary about the mating rituals of birds and was struck by how similar their colourful courting displays were to humans. Shelly sees ‘Delia and George’ as her first and only, soft porn.
‘Delia and Geroge’ has been broadcast on CH4 and screens internationally at film, dance film and arts festivals.
