EXCERPT

‘Betwixt and Between’ is a moving portrait commissioned by Sadlers Wells, Moves Festival and BBC Big Screens. Shelly made ‘Betwixt and Between’ whilst she was artist in Residence at ‘Moves’ Festival in Manchester. Using 18th Century portraiture of ladies as inspiration, Shelly explored the choreography of glances and small gestures working with her lady sitter and a stuffed dog. The Lady Sitter is performed by Polly Wright, who also composed and plays the music in the film. Shelly has gone onto make a number of versions of this work, her first version ‘Dead Dog’ premiered at Sadler’s Well’s Theatre in London & screened on BBC Big Screens in cities throughout the UK.
